What I teach

  • Haftarah

  • Torah reading

  • Leading services and prayers

My energetic tutoring style is done in an engaging, encouraging, relaxed and enjoyable environment. I work with each student to prepare them to the best of their abilities. I also provide homework schedules and preparation guidance to ensure students continue to make progress outside of our formal sessions.

Lesson logistics

Lessons can be virtual through Zoom or similar technology, face-to-face at my home in Newton Centre, Mass. or at the student’s home. I have done many hours of distance tutoring. The ideal length for a lesson is one hour per week. I check in with the parents on a regular basis to keep them updated and always welcome parents and students to contact me as well.

When to begin

How much should my child do?

I recommend starting the learning process at least 12 months out. Generally, I encourage frontloading the studying to reduce any stress during the weeks leading up to the big day.

I think the Bar/Bat Mitzvah student should do as much as they are comfortable and capable of doing. I never have a definitive goal of how much the student should do at the beginning of the process, and I always encourage the parents not to have any either. I am happy to provide advice on this throughout.
